Ice Climbing at Tinker's Falls

Tinker's Falls is the closest legally climbable ice to Ithaca, requiring only about a 40 minute drive, condition dependent. It is a small waterfall in summer which turns into a relatively short single pitch amphitheatre in winter, with easy NEI3 ice in the central mass and a variety of NEI4 and 4+ columns that sometimes touch down on the edges of the gorge.

As usual, wonderful pictures are to be found at Jim Lawyer's Tinker's Page.

Directions to Tinkers

Travel on Route 13 East from Ithaca. Continue through Cortland and past Interstate 81. At the town of Truxton turn left on State Road 91. After several miles note the Labrador Mountain ski area on the left. About one mile further you will find an obvious drainage on the right with a marked hiking sign, and a few hundred feet further, a pull-off on the left for parking.
