The map above shows the Danby section of the Finger Lakes Trail. One can access this trail's north end by walking directly from Cornell -- there is also bus service to Danby, near the southeastern end of this section. The main trail is in blue -- a spur to Buttermilk Falls is in purple. The Abbott Loop, shown in red, has one of the most impressive views convenient to Ithaca, looking over a sharp relief of hundreds of feet down into the valley of West Danby. The section of the FLT connecting Buttermilk to Treman goes through Lick Brook, administered quasi-feudally by the Finger Lakes Land Trust which permits hiking and some commercial ice training but not public ice access. -- DonBarry - 10 Apr 2008
