Report What a wonderful climbing day! Nine members of the Free
Outing Club did a joint trip with the Syracuse University
Outing Club (who added another six or so climbers) and
we had the Salmon River Gorge entirely to ourselves.
Temps of around 20 degrees weren't so bad with no wind,
and the ice was fat but not quite plasticky enough to make
the sticks too easy. The waterfall on Salmon Steak was entirely enclosed in a climbable tube, and one could hear the
water roaring inside.

It was first ice for five of the group, and many smiles
were had, especially over hot chocolate and hot tea as the
day went on. We milked every ounce of light, and left only
in descending twilight.

A pizza party followed in Ithaca.
